Writing Tips & Common Mistakes

Sympathy Cards

Do: Acknowledge the loss simply. "I'm so sorry for your loss" is enough.

Don't: Say "they're in a better place" or "everything happens for a reason." These can feel dismissive.

Congratulations

Do: Be specific about what they achieved. "Your dedication paid off" means more than "nice job."

Don't: Make it about you. Keep the focus on their accomplishment.

Apologies

Do: Take responsibility. "I was wrong to..." shows maturity.

Don't: Add "but" after apologizing. It negates everything before it.

Birthdays

Do: Mention a quality you admire or a memory you share.

Don't: Focus only on age. Celebrate who they are instead.

How CardWright Helps

1

Choose Your Situation

Select the occasion, your relationship, and the tone that fits. These choices shape the language and formality of your message.

2

Add Personal Details

Include specific memories, qualities, or situations you want mentioned. This transforms generic text into something that sounds like you.

3

Pick and Polish

Review several drafts, save your favorites, and mix and match lines until it feels right. Then copy it to your card.

What to Know

  • These are starting points, not final messages. Always add your own details.
  • Saved messages stay in your browser. Clear your browser data and they'll be gone.
  • Share links include your settings but not your saved messages.
  • For very personal situations, use these as inspiration rather than copying directly.

Questions People Ask

What if I don't like any of the generated messages?

Try changing the tone or adding more details in the sentiment field. Sometimes switching from formal to warm, or adding a specific memory, changes the results significantly. You can also combine parts of different messages.

Can I use these messages as-is?

You can, but they'll mean more with personal details added. Try including a specific memory, an inside joke, or something unique about your relationship. That's what makes a card feel genuine.

What if my situation isn't listed?

Choose the closest occasion and adjust the tone. The generated text will still give you a starting framework. You can also use the sentiment field to explain your specific situation.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser. We don't store or transmit your messages, names, or any personal information. Saved messages stay only on your device.
